What actually moves a SCADA engineer’s salary
- Moving toward process DCS. DCS pays more at every stage; SCADA engineers on process plants make the move most easily.
- Modern platform depth. Ignition 8.3 work (version control, REST, containers) and AVEVA System Platform migrations are scarcer than screen building on an older release.
- Integration below the SCADA. OPC UA, MQTT/Sparkplug and historians — engineers who own the data path, not only the screens, are the ones leads are made from.
- OT security. IEC 62443 work on the supervisory layer prices above the standard curve because the pool is thin.
- Utility and energy SCADA. Substation (IEC 61850), water and renewables SCADA is a separate, thinner market — the guide marks it as desk view, not measured data.
